The exhibit of Barnabas was based on the relics of St. Mercurio and St. Fortunata, which are kept in the monastery church in Altomünster, Germany. It is much smaller in size than the other ones and showcases the skull of a 38-week-old fetus. The little Barnabas with a scythe in his hand symbolizes death that comes unannounced, while also suggesting the holiness of this fetus. Indeed, in Catholic churches, we do not see the remains of small babies and fetuses.
