Making-of

The inspiration for my work was the work of the frater Adalbert Eder from the Bavarian monastery Waldsassen. Eder was famous for a balance of materials, such as a combination of wire and cut glass stones. Although glass together with gold and silver wires can look cumbersome, Eder's work stands out for its immense lightness of decorations used.

For my work, I used twisted wire, formerly called Lyon wire (now Bouillon). Today these are mostly used by florists for floral arrangements.

Another material that stands out in the works is cut glass stones. Stones and wires make up the most expensive items used in production for the sheer number of them.

My goal was not to create copies, but pieces that are inspired by Baroque and Eder's work, so I used modern materials and created my processes and techniques for the creation of the components based on photographs. The known techniques may differ from mine, as these are specific monastic works. I did not know how the individual components were made in the Baroque period, as it is very difficult to trace the exact techniques.
